Getting started...

Posted this a couple nights ago, but it isn't up - everything on the site is in Korean here, so I am still trying to figure it all out. Reposting now!

"There is so much that I have experienced already that I really do not know where I could possibly begin, so I will briefly just go over what I have seen and done thus far. :)

Caitlin and I arrived together at the airport Thursday night last week, then waited for Agata so we could all take a taxi to our residence together. The taxi ride was very expensive, but in such a foreign country, late at night, it was worth it for sure.

Friday, after much confusion and miscommunication, those of us who were here went toward the university for our first visit and were surprised to find an assistant looking for us at the subway stop just before the university. She walked us into a restaurant nearby and we were welcomed with an authentic and beautiful meal with several important representatives from Dongguk. We were then shown to the school, given a list of available courses and a tour, and found ourselves amazed at how beautiful the campus is. It is atop a large (and steep!) hill, and while it has a bit of construction going on - all too familiar for us ;) - the buildings are gorgeous and impressive. Anyway, after leaving the university, we did a bit of exploring and shopping before returning "home."

The weekend was filled with exploration, shopping and dining, and since Monday was a holiday here, there was no school so we were free to roam for another day.

Tuesday, which is just coming to a close, was busy and productive. We met at the university in the early afternoon and were able to register for our classes, get our student ID cards, open bank accounts at the school, and more. The student assistant who has been assigned to help us ("Jenny") brought us everywhere we needed to be and gave us so much information and advice. After getting so much done, she showed us some neat spots on campus (the coffee shop, the cafeteria, even the rooftop of the library where they have a garden and exercise machines!), then we took some photos and made plans for tomorrow. She even walked us to the subway stop afterward!

Seoul is amazing and exciting. There is so much more that I cannot even begin to explain, but stay tuned and we will all try to fill you in!

More later,

Farah"

  1. Hi, Farah!
What a WONDERFUL, exciting time it sounds like you're already having. I'm so glad you had that great assistant to show you around. I know you'll make the very best of your time there, since you are a smart and industrious young woman! Have a great time, and soak a lot in! Wish I had done something like this when I was young. Enjoy, and stay in touch! Love, Dot (Noonie)
